Today we went into the Mission Range to look for signs of wind slab and persistent instabilities.
The winds were calm for most of the day. There was a light westerly breeze on the ridgetop at 7000 feet. Light snow showers would move in and out.
• We observed a few minor loose dry sluffs with ski cuts in steep terrain. The snow that was entrained was isolated to the top 12 inches.
• We experienced localized cracking around our skis on small wind-loaded test slopes.
• Well-developed cornices have formed on steep north and east-facing ridgelines.
• Plenty of loose snow is available for transport if winds increase.

We dug a pit on a protected north aspect looking for lingering persistent layers. We found the basal facet crust layers are bonding well in this area.
