Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

Skied ENE aspect of above Brushy Fork. South and West aspects had gone through what appeared to be several melt and freeze cycles and was quite heinous to both travel and attempt to ski on. East and North faces above 7300 feet were in better shape, but there was signs of past point releases during the past week of increasing temperatures during the day.

Slight breeze out of the east on the ridge tops and unlimited visibility.

Performed and ECT at 7400 feet on the ENE aspect on a 32 degree slope. Snow depth was 275cm. We got no results in our ECT test. With a shovel sheer we did get some buried facets to fail at a depth of 40cm, but it did so with little energy and did not propagate across the column. Below this the column was very uniform and did not react to our shovel sheer test (see attached photo).
