Today we toured up Fred Burr Canyon in the central Bitterroots from 4300ft to 6000ft. Conditions were warm and wet. Above Fred Burr Reservoir on south-facing aspects, there was lots of evidence of loose wet and wet slabs up to D1.5 in size coming off in the last few days, especially around rock bands. Above 4700ft, an inch of new snow had accumulated that was incredibly stickie, making for slow travel.
Other Observations:
• Isolating cracking around large boulders
• Widespread “pinwheels”(rollerballs).
• Top 6 inch (15cm) wet, easy to make a snowball
• Snow transport loading east aspects observed above 7000ft
