Bottom Line

Today at Gash, we found difficult trail-breaking. At 4800 ft, 15 inches (40cm)of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Above 7000 ft, it was snowing an inch an hour, a clear red flag and sign to make careful terrain choices. It will take time for the snowpack to adjust to the recent rapid loading
On test slopes greater than 35 degrees, we could easily start large sluffs that could be of consequence if carried into terrain traps like gullies, cliff bands, trees, etc.
