Bottom Line

Today we toured in the Glen Lake area, skiing the open east-facing shot below the summer trailhead. Above 5300 ft, snow was light and made for good skiing. South-facing slopes were sun-affected with a melt-freeze crust.
Observations made:
• Widespread near-surface facets
• Isolated pockets of surface hoar in protected areas mostly below 5000 ft
• January 7th rain layer around 5300ft
• No cracking, collapsing observed
• Extensive crown observed from the road on the Heavenly twins, approximately 1500ft wide
