Today we toured to 6,000 feet from the Lolo Pass Visitor center, skiing an open northwest face. Approximately 6 inches of light snow sits over slightly denser (4F) storm snow from Friday (01/07/2022)
Observations made:
• Widespread surface hoar with grain sizes up to 5 mm.
• Surfaces below 5,000 feet are rain-affected, icy spots with breakable crusts.
• No cracking, collapsing, or notable test results observed.
The wind was calm, and temperatures stayed around 10° F, with slightly warmer temperatures experienced at higher elevations.
