Bottom Line

Over the weekend at Lolo Pass, this week's rec level 1, avalanche course found a very stable snowpack and good skiing on sheltered north-facing terrain. On all aspects, we had stable test results in extended column tests and observed widespread near-surface facets 5 to 10 inches down. The near-surface facets could become an issue if we receive a significant amount of new snow.

Other observations
• Sun crusts on south-facing slopes
• North-facing slopes remained cold and had dry, loose sluffing on steep road cuts.
