Toured to the top of Sweeney Jr. today. Mostly sunny, temps stayed below freezing, and winds were 4-6 out of the west. Trace of new snow. Above 7500’ snow surface has stayed cold on all aspects, mostly wind effected but great cold powder in protected pockets. Below 7500’ had a stout melt freeze crust on south aspects. Dug a pit on a north facing aspect at 8500’, HS 55cm and surprisingly well consolidated until a melt freeze crust over facets at 15cm to the ground, ECTN28.
