BIG NEWS! We are excited to announce that we are changing our forecasting schedule. Starting tomorrow, January 11th, the avalanche center will publish consecutive forecasts on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This is a change from our current Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday schedule.

There are several benefits to the new schedule. It allows us to add a fourth day of forecasting without adding additional resources. The schedule also provides better coverage of the highest-use days of the week – Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, it will improve the consistency and continuity of the forecasts, and streamline avalanche center operations.

Our long-term goal is to provide the community with daily avalanche forecasts, 7 days per week. However, that will require more resources, such as additional forecasters. This schedule change is a step in the right direction until we can acquire those resources. If you would like to help make daily forecasts a reality, consider donating to the avalanche foundation here.

We will no longer issue scheduled forecasts on Tuesdays. However, we will continue to monitor conditions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and provide any necessary updates during significant storm/avalanche cycles.

Thank you to the National Avalanche Center and the WCMAF Board of Directors for ongoing guidance and discussions leading to this decision.
