Observation Date: 02/15/2021
Route/Location:
Up SE ridge of little Joe, skiing on north side of the east bowl.
Weather:
Snowing hard
Wind:
Calm
New Snow: 6-12″
Avalanche Activity:
No instability red flags observed. Dug a pit at 7800ft on the steep roll of the SE ridge. HS 180cm, ECTN 22 on Jan 13 crust 90cm down, no propagation in test. Winds were calm, even on the summit, with no active transport observed. The snowpack seemed to have adjusted somewhat to the new load, and we found fantastic conditions top to bottom, although we avoided all avalanche terrain given recent avalanche activity in the N. Bitterroot.
