Observation Date: 02/21/2021

Route/Location:
Flathead gulley between Flathead and Shoshone buttresses.

Weather:
A bit of sun and blue this morning, shifting towards snow showers the rest of the day. Wind was blowing steady all day, the gully itself is fairly protected by trees and tall rock walls so surprisingly calm in most of the gully.

Wind:
Blowing steady out of the S/SW all day, despite this fact I observed this S facing gulley getting loaded from down slope winds near 7,000 ft, where I turned around.

New Snow: 3-6″

Avalanche Activity:
I observed a natural glide avalanche that looks to have released in the past couple of days: E facing, 6500 ft, crown width ~75ft wide, 50 ft wide, 12” deep, running on rock slab, the debris ran for about 350 f.

I dug twice on my ascent.
5600’, S facing, HS 100 cm, ECTX
6,600’, S facing, HS 190 cm, ECTX

No whumpfing, cracking or collapsing all day.
