Observation Date: 03/21/2021

Route/Location:
Glacier Lake and Mosquito Peak

Weather:
Moderate winds, low clouds, and snow increasing throughout the day. Very wintery feeling!

Wind:
Moderate out of the west.

New Snow: 0-3″

Avalanche Activity:
Two very large glide cracks opened up on the SE slope near the up track out of the Glacier Lake bowl at about 7300 feet. A couple hundred feet wide, and over 6 feet deep with a large gap as they opened up. The cracks were so large they more resembled bergschrunds than glide cracks as they were large enough to swallow a person. They must have opened up during the warm spell. Even with well below freezing temps, we stayed well clear of them.

N facing snow was consolidated powder with no evidence of instability.

Other Comments:
N facing had excellent powder with slight wind effect at the top. All over aspects were a stout sun crust with about two inches of snow making great skiing.
