Observation Date: 02/27/2014
Route/Location:
University Mountain (Pattee Canyon), south face, 5400 feet.
Weather:
Snowing, chilly
Wind:
Gusty east winds creating sastrugi and drifts.
New Snow: 0-3″
Avalanche Activity:
Not really an earth-shattering report, but interesting given the location: encountered whoomphing at 5400 feet on the south-running ridge off University Mountain. A hasty pit showed roughly a 24-inch wind pillow atop snow that fell earlier in the week. Slope angle was about 23 degrees.
Other Comments:
Skiing was pretty good where the snow surface had not been affected by the strong sun on Tuesday and Wednesday.
