Observation Date: 01/05/2015
Route/Location:
Top of the first ridge, roughly west facing, low angle terrain.
Weather:
Light wet snow, overcast.
Wind:
Some wind especially up on the ridge.
New Snow: 12+”
Avalanche Activity:
We dug a pit just below the ridge, on low-angle terrain. At ECT 14, 3 distinct fracture lines appeared: at 15cm (under the shovel), 45cm and 65 cm (these two across the whole pit face). We had noticed the snow breaking in large blocks even as we were skinning up through low-angle terrain.
Other Comments:
Very heavy new snow, evidence of heavy wind activity (snow unevenly deposited).
