Avalanche Awareness Workshop
A workshop for those who enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, or snowmobiling in the backcountry who want to learn about traveling safely in the backcountry. Knowledge of avalanche danger is as important a bringing a hat on your winter adventures. This workshop will cover the basics of where and why avalanches occur, how to recognize avalanche danger, the use of avalanche rescue gear, how to perform searches and rescues, and ways to manage risk in the backcountry. In addition we will cover where to find information about current weather and condition advisories and more advanced courses. This workshop consists of two evening lectures. An optional and free guided field trip will be offered at Lolo Pass for those who participate in the lectures on Sunday February 8th. The details of the voluntary field trip will be organized at the end of the second lecture.
