Avalanche Activity:
We spent a wet Sunday skiing around Lappi. We did not dig a pit. Temperatures warmed significantly throughout the day, and rain line advanced from about 5,500 feet up to 7,000 feet, and winds were gusty, with sustained ridgeline winds.
Above rain line, about 6 – 18″ of very dense snow from the past three days was the primary avalanche concern. The temperatures were warm enough to initiate stabilization all the way up to our high point at 8,500 feet, and we did not have any cracking or other acute signs if instability other than roller ball and isolated small wet slab instability at mid elevations. Due to the heavy snow load and recent wind transport, we stayed clear of steep wind loaded slopes.
