Observation Date: 02/26/2018
Route/Location:
Lappi Lake and East aspect of Point 8524
Weather:
Snowing lightly, increasing into afternoon
Wind:
Much less wind than forecast. We didn’t see any sustained or gusting winds until reaching ridgetop above 8k, though winds were starting to pick up a little in the late afternoon. Very little active transport observed. Other parties on Little St Joe indicated that the high elevation winds were blowing “scary hard” in that area.
New Snow: 3-6″
Avalanche Activity:
No signs of naturals or other signs of instability. We ski cut a few steeper rollovers, producing minor sloughing
A NE aspect pit at 7000′ (33 degree slope) produced the following results on an ECT
240cm snow depth
ECTn 10 15cm down (storm snow interface)
ECTn 29 25cm down
