Route/Location:
Lolo Pass- Ridge running north east from Visitor center parking lot, commonly known as Hangover Ridge. north, northwest side.
Weather:
Overcast and snowing lightly. Temp around 30 F
Wind:
Mild, no signs of drifting or wind crust.
New Snow: 6-12″
Avalanche Activity:
Collapsing of top layer with associated fractures that shot across the slope as we approached our pit location. Road cuts fractured an slumped when we skied over them.
Other Comments:
We dug a pit and found a 1.5 inch, large crystal, weak layer approximately 8 inches down. It had a clean propagation in our extended column on strike three from the wrist. It collapsed all the way across and slide.
