Observation Date: 02/15/2019

Route/Location:
Traveled from Lolo Pass on Granite Pass Rd approximately 1.5 miles. Near ridge line where the road crosses from east to west facing.

Weather:
Weather was lightly snowing with overcast sky’s. Temp 32 degrees F.

Wind:
Winds were calm.

New Snow: 3-6″

Avalanche Activity:
No visible avalanche activity on the way up. Surface sluffs are currently common on the road cuts. Visible wind drifts as you approach ridge top.

Other Comments:
We dug a full pit 150 cm deep on a slop of 42 degrees with an aspect of 60 degrees NE. Total snow depth was 250 cm. We performed both isolated column and long column (propagation test). 90 cm below surface we are still seeing our persistent week layer. This layer slid on strike 14 (4 from elbow) in the isolated column. In the propagation test it fractured and slid on strike 34 and the entire long column slid. The surface snow is light but with the sun and warm temps it appears to be adhering well.
