Observation Date: 03/22/2020
Route/Location:
Southern Rattlesnake traverse, Stuart Mountain to Point 6 through Mosquito peak.
Weather:
Clear, cool up high, sunny.
Wind:
Mild, out of the west.
New Snow: 0-3″
Avalanche Activity:
Moderate wet loose activity on south faces, with mid-elevation crusts breaking down by mid day. Cold powder conditions on northerly slopes with virtually no snow movement other than small sloughs on steep terrain.
Other Comments:
North facing terrain is in fine shape in the Rattlesnake, with settled boot top powder on every slope we skied. As long as night time temps keep dipping well below freezing as they have the past few weeks, we are lined up for fine conditions in the foreseeable future. All windslabs we encountered seemed to be old and well bonded.
