Observation Date: 04/10/2020
Route/Location:
I glassed these naturals from atop Lil Jo today.
The cornice-fall triggered slides appear to be the most recent, facing North at ~8,400 just West of Lappi point.
Solar warming seems the likely culprit behind the slide in the second photo; East facing at ~ 7,200 ft on the northern flanks of St. Mary.
Natural release on the third? Hard to say as the crowns are partially blown in. It also faces North at ~8,000 ft just East of Smokey Jo.
Weather:
Calm and clear.
Wind:
New Snow: No New Snow
Avalanche Activity:
All of these naturals appear to have run on the faceted crust that has been capped by 1-3 feet of snow in late March. The cornice fall triggered slides show that this layer still has the potential to be active, especially after another storm tonight/tomorrow loads the pack further. I noticed quite a few minor wet point releases on many E & S aspects throughout the Bass drainage, but nothing substantial.
