Backcountry Skills Course January 15-17, 2016

Spend three days and two nights at Downing Mountain Lodge for a backcountry ski and snowboarding workshop.  Participants will develop skills such as avalanche safety, companion rescue, route finding and terrain management, trip planning, backcountry travel, and winter travel skills.  Expect to spend some time touring and riding around the lodge with professional and individualized instruction in a close setting by certified guides John Lehrman and Blake Votilla.

This course will be tailored to the beginner or intermediate backcountry rider looking to improve their craft and make the transition into the backcountry.  That being said all participants are expected to be experienced on-area riders, and able to confidently make their way through blue and black diamond runs and glades.  Gear rentals available through LB Snow.  Downing Mountain Lodge is an ideal venue to hone in and practice your skills learned throughout the course.  At the conclusion of the weekend instructors will give advice on a progression of good tours and skiing goals for each student to work towards.
