Teen Intro to Avalanches

Join Missoula Parks and Recreation and the West Central Montana Avalanche Foundation for a teen-focused Know Before You Go (KBYG) on snow learning session at Marshall Mountain. Experienced avalanche educators lead the event and deliver the fun and engaging KBYG outdoor learning curriculum at Marshall Mountain on non-avalanche terrain. Attendees will learn about the hazards avalanches pose to humans and simple steps to stay safe and have fun in the mountains. Introduction to beacons and probes, as well as avalanche snow study, will all be included in this hands-on three-hour education event.

Provided:

• Snowshoes
• Snow study and avalanche rescue training equipment
• Hot cocoa and snacks!

Participants provide:

• Winter clothing (snow pants, jacket, gloves, and a hat)

Optional:

• Backcountry touring equipment
