Observation Date: 02/14/2021

Route/Location:
NE. Ridge and S bowl of Gash knob.

Weather:
Snowing Hard

Wind:
Moderate, W-SW

New Snow: 3-6″

Avalanche Activity:
Widespread cracking and collapsing on the way up in shallow areas. We observed a number of fairly large natural avalanches at the bottom of S. Gash knob bowl/NE Ridge that were partially filled in. Light was too flat to get good photos. Dug a pit on NE facing steep roll at the base of the larch skiing on the NE Ridge. Surprisingly shallow snowpack in that specific area, 160cm total. ECTP 21 on January 13 crust 90cm down, which I believe is also what all the naturals failed on too. We tiptoed around and had great conditions. Probed a 450+cm snowpack in the trees on the NE Ridge just 1000ft higher than where we dug our pit, so huge spatial variability in snowpack.
