Observation Date: 01/08/2020
Seeley Lake Region- Boy Scout road to warming hut and on some other roads and play hills. Stayed off and away from steep slopes due to avalanche concern.
Strong winds today with light snowfall. There was a lot of snow transport that was filling in roads with deep drifts. Open and exposed slopes were seeing a lot of wind creating dangerous avalanche conditions on the leeward side. When you stepped off your sled in most areas without sled compaction you sank to your waist.
New Snow: 3-6″
Reports of a natural slide out by Lake Dinah, sounds like pictures and a report will come in from another source. The avalanche was a large storm slab that stepped down and created a persistent slab avalanche. Looked like a lot of slopes had recently avalanched and the crown was filled back in. I think many slopes have naturally avalanched throughout the past 8 days.
We were concerned about unsurvivable avalanches so we stay off of and away from steep terrain.
