Observation Date: 02/02/2014

Route/Location:
Southeast of Elk Meadows

Weather:
Partly cloudy, occasional sun and occasional light flurries. Upper teens to lower twenties.

Wind:
Calm. No evidence of major wind loading or transport on the aspects we skied. Open West aspects appeared to be more wind affected.

New Snow: 12+”

Avalanche Activity:
No signs of avalanche activity with the exception of some sluffs on steeper/rockier terrain. While skinning up NE aspect between 6300 ft and 7600 ft had a significant whumpf and fracturing on an open 30-35 degree slope in the trees. Dug a pit at about 7600 ft, 30 degree slope, NE aspect: ECTP16 Q2 with the storm snow sliding on a significant layer of hoar with decent energy – enough to make us stick to skiing the trees. Excellent skiing with no activity on the descent.
